This RSCtv session gives practical tips on promoting confident and efficient copyright practice in colleges and universities. When it comes to the development of e-learning materials, there's no better head start than using what's already been created. However, this must be done with due regard to the creator's rights. Here, I'll present five easy to implement top tips for getting the copyright word used positively around your institution. Break away from tutors paraphrasing other people's text to create materials. Banish the hiding of materials where the author isn't sure whether they could include other people's photos, videos and audio recordings. Before long, all your staff can be using other people's stuff confidently and compliantly online!

This course introduces the topic of virtualisation, focusing on the successful implementation of the technology on campus networks with its impact on infrastructure and security. Virtualisation technology has its roots in the mainframe technology of the mid 1960s but recently has seen resurgence. Allowing multiple instances of an Operating System to share the same hardware with more granular control of machine configuration and networking has huge benefits.
The ability to run multiple Operating Systems on the same hardware has cost benefits, addresses the problem of underutilised server hardware, can assist with business continuity as well as supporting the increasing green agenda.

Many assistive technologies allow users to surf web pages and collaborate online with personalised support, but what happens when a user is not on their own computer? Most browsers offer ways to change the look and feel of websites whether through colour or text changes and the use of add-ons such as text to speech but these only work within a particular browser and when there is access to change settings or download add-ins. It was felt that it would be useful to have a tool bar that would work with all browsers and with the majority of accessible websites. The tool needed to offer 'just-in time' support wherever and whenever a student needed it. It could be for one page as a bookmark, or as an installation for use on many pages or as code for the web developer who could add the link in his web page - the JISC TechDis toolbar can be used in all these ways.
The JISC TechDis toolbar allows for text resizing, colour changes and text to speech. It can also be used with forms to check spelling and meanings of words. There is a nifty tool for grabbing a web page's information such as the author, date and URL which may be handy when capturing sites for referencing and many other ideas have come up in discussion with those testing the toolbar.
