Many Scottish Universities employ an important group of professionals who support students with disabilities across all areas of their institutions to ensure that they experience parity of access to their chosen curriculum. This group of staff, known as Assistive Technology Advisors (or Assistive Technologists) plays a crucial role in supporting students during their time at university.

The Alt Format Suite at the University of St Andrews plays a crucial role in ensuring that students with barriers to learning and print difficulties have parity of access to academic textbooks and written course work. Managed by Paresh Raval along with his dedicated team of volunteers it houses two state of the art recording booths, two PCs with OCR scanning software and a Braille Embosser.
