Module 1 - Introduction to eLearning
E-learning is about the application of ICT to education. The use of technology empowers learning, widens access and enables learning to take place in ways that suit the needs of individual learners. The current state of development of ICT, and particularly the growth of internet-based information services, gives us a significant opportunity to change the way we work to the benefit of all. This module will explore these topics and give a better understanding of the application of e-learning in the context of an individuals own teaching practice.
Module 2 - eResources & Copyright
A wealth of resources and techniques now exist which serve as a source of teaching resources and exciting examples of new teaching practices. This workshop will explore some of the resources available on the Web including JISC resources & services, NLN learning materials along with other relevant materials useful for teaching & learning. It will also look at some legal issues affecting practitioners in the context of teaching & learning, including Copyright & IPR.
Module 3 - Interactivity - MSWord
MSWord can provide simple solutions, which can be used to add interest & interactivity to electronic documents that enables teaching practitioners to use student centred approaches for teaching and learning, and incorporate teaching strategies that take account of different learning styles. This workshop will enable practitioners to create interactive resources.
Module 4 - Interactivity - MSPowerPoint
MSPowerPoint is a very effective piece of software for producing high quality learning materials. PowerPoint can be used to put together comprehensive learning packages that take account of individual needs and different learning styles. Student activities can be easily incorporated and other packages integrated with PowerPoint to build comprehensive and coherent learning packages. Practitioners will be shown how to create high quality resources that meet their own curriculum needs.
Module 5 - Making Materials Accessible
This session aims to raise awareness and provide information and advice on the issues relating to accessibility and inclusion in e-learning. It will provide an introduction to many types of assistive technologies available with an opportunity for staff to use a range of assistive technologies include both hardware and software. This session will also show staff how to easily adapt learning materials that can accommodate different learning needs and styles.
Module 6 - eTutoring
The rising profile of e-Learning has brought the use of communication tools to the fore. Most college systems include a range of facilities to provide structured learning content together with a range of communication and collaboration tools. The effective use of online communication tools needs consideration. This workshop will explore the use of communication tools in the context of tutor support and include consideration of email, discussion tools, WIKIs and bloggs.
Module 7 - eAssessment
The increasing use of on-line delivery of teaching materials for learners brings with it the need to consider the tools for on-line assessment, and their uses. Software or web sites used to create assessment activities can be free and simple to use. This workshop will introduce practitioners to freely available tools to create electronic quizzes and assessment exercises.
Module 8 - Virtual Learning Environment
VLEs allow educators to create courses and share resources quickly, without the need to develop technical skills. They support on-line, flexible access to learning and can greatly assist in providing learning opportunities that meet the needs of different learning styles and preferences. Making existing content available at any time, in any place, is a huge step forward for both learners and practitioners and making use of a VLE can offer learners a richer learning experience.
